Any time I have the urge to play FRLG, I just remember that my Johto Journeys have begun again.įRLG has some dumb island quests that only existed for the player to power up their starter with an elemental hyper beam, breeding in the post game, a simple and boring elite 4 rematch, and a sadly limiting pool of non-kanto pokemon to catch. It has better sprites and graphics, more legendaries, more available pokemon, rematches, and turns up the polish all the way. There is just so much more packed into HGSS that FireRed and Leafgreen look like a paint job in comparison. I agree with everything you said about updates, but to me the best nostalgia games with updates will always be HeartGold and SoulSilver. I also spent a lot of time thinking about it, and it was close.
